To tell the truth, we know very little about this young provincial, who must have acquired some rudiments of Latin at the College des Capettes in Noyon. This was located on the road to Pont-FEveque, facing the Church of Saint-Maurice. The picturesque name "Capettes" derived from the short cape (cappa) worn by the scholars. 40 Founded about 1200, the University of Paris was the oldest in the country (see app. 2).
