There was going to be no surgery to restore my sight. This was it. This was the nub around which everyone had been circling. Now I knew. Slowly, I sat back in bed. I heard absolutely nothing else that was said in the room that night. This darkness, this total absence of light, had become my reality. And not just my reality until they could do some kind of surgery, oh no.
